Conference Highlights

Jointly organised by the Centre for Greater China Studies (CGCS) and the School of Communication (SCOM), the International Conference on Misinformation and Fake News was successfully held online on 6 February 2021.

 

With the advancement of the Internet, information technologies as well as social media, misinformation and fake news happens in our daily life and spread widely in a second. The Conference aims to exchange findings of the latest research on misinformation and fake news in the international academic community. This Conference not only provides a common platform for interdisciplinary dialogue on misinformation and fake news regulations in Greater China, but also disseminates the latest knowledge about misinformation and fake news.

 

The Conference focuses on issues related to misinformation and fake news from a multi-disciplinary perspective. The themes are Susceptibility to Misinformation and Fake News, Politics of Misinformation, How Fake is Fake, and Misinformation in China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

 

Fourteen panel speakers from Asia, Canada, the United States had an open and constructive dialogue about the issues related to misinformation and fake news from a multi-disciplinary perspective. The conference was well-attended online by around 80 participants.

 

Speakers delivered their insightful presentations, and shared their expertise, and research findings in the area of misinformation and fake news. Four of the speakers also served as the panel chairs to engage all participants in the dialogue.

 

Professor Simon HO, President of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong delivered the opening remarks at the Conference.
Professor Paul LEE, Chairman of the Conference Organising Committee had a discussion with panel speakers.
